Congealing Social Disparities into Space: The Global Restructuring of the City

“The time has come to acknowledge that ‘politics of growth cannot be separated from the local politics of welfare and social provision’ (Fyfe and Kenny 2005). For gentrification theory this means, that debate has to unite forces and shift from explanation to action. While social movements against displacement and land exclusion arise around the globe, gentrification theory should bundle the vast theoretical and empirical knowledge to work on solutions of how we achieve true (and that means social) sustainability in our cities.”
